The Hero of Time had its WORLD PREMIERE on June 6th 2009 here in Atlanta. The film had several other screenings in cities such as NYC, LA, Kassel, Germany, and Pasco, WA. The online release was scheduled for Dec 14th and ran exclusively on Daily Motion till the end of the year. The film is no longer available for distribution as we stated in our post Jan 1st 2010:

“Hey, everyone. We just wanted to let you know that Dec. 31 was the last day that The Hero of Time was available for viewing. We came to an agreement with Nintendo earlier this month to stop distributing the film.  In the spirit of the holiday season they were good enough to let us keep the movie up for you to watch and enjoy through the end of 2009, but not past 2009.  We understand Nintendo’s right to protect its characters and trademarks and understand how in order to keep their property unspoiled by fan’s interpretation of the franchise, Nintendo needs to protect itself — even from fan-works with good intentions.

This has been quite an adventure for us and we have a real sense of peace bringing the project to a close. Between the screenings and the online release many of you were able to see the film and we hope to not have only inspired those of you that live, breathe and dream Zelda but we also hope to have inspired all of you aspiring filmmakers out there!  Thank you again for all your patience with the project and we hope you had as much fun watching our movie as we did making it. Thanks for all your wonderful messages of encouragement and support! I’m sure our next project will be right around the corner! No, it’s not Majora’s Mask : )”

The film was shot mainly on weekends over the span of about two years from August ’04 through January ’06. Post production started immediately and a rough edit void of any special fx was contrived early in ’07. The lack of visual fx and music help was challenging to the films progress; nevertheless the film printed a final draft in Oct ’08 thanks to all the additional help from saints like George R. Powell (composer)!

The film is set in Hyrule where a young boy from the forest (Link) is beckoned by his dreams and the sage of the forest (Deku Tree) to venture to the city of Hyrule and seek princess Zelda’s council. The evil Lord Ganondorf has plotted to overthrow the kingdom which propels Princess Zelda into hiding. Link endeavors to save them by pulling of the Master Sword in the Temple of Time. Consequently sending him 5 years into the future where Ganon now rules and threatens the future of the kingdom. Link must find a way to not only save his princess but the land he’s fervent for.

I could care less about all the criticism you guys get. I think the idea as a whole is very awesome. Also, I’d like to mention that, I think, if ANYONE should make a Zelda movie… It should be a couple Die-Hard Fans, such as yourselves.

what’s the deal with glitching the video you put on youtube, so there is no release date, when you say there is one? that’s seriously not funny.
Also, I was wondering, what’s this stuff I’m hearing about pirated copies and hot spots and crap? I thought this was going to be available VIA a DIVX or MPEG file you just click on and download! I’m not going to pay money I don’t have for something, that’s for sure.

what’s with the glitch in the youtube video? you built up the excitement and then GLITCH and I don’t know the release date. :(

It was supposed to be 7 years, meh…

Oh well, I guess that doesn’t matter. But what about the Spiritual Stones? I feel like the description goes too far into it. It would be much better if Ganondorf entering the Temple of Time when Link tries to enter the Sacred Realm was a surprise.

Thank you very much for the hard work everyone has put into this fanfilm. I’ve been in anticipation of this movie for quite some time. Deciphering every still of the youtube clips has been my only salvation to the suspense you’ve given me. I can appreciate hard work and can empathize with any hardships you all may have experienced. I don’t generally purchase movies, but in this case, given that you have supplied us with wallpapers, downloadable media content, interviews, a loving cast, and the biggest, the movie, I would happily purchase and spread the fame of the film. Although I have one regret that I must admit… I pity that you are in Atlanta. Last time I drove there, I was in downtown for 15 minutes before turning around to go back to Hinesville (4.5 hours one way). That place is very frightening. I almost ran out of gas in that place. Not a gas station in sight! 75/85 was my only salvation and even then, getting back to it from one way streets was PURE luck. Glad I rolled my D&D dice to get out of there. :) +10 luck ftw

Yay! The story sounds the same but not the same at the same time… cool. I really don’t want to see the exact game played out as a movie, and I don’t want to see something totally different, and from watching and reading practically everything on this movie, it looks like you guys are doing a great job on making the movie your own thing while keeping enough of the Zelda elements to make me happy. I don’t care what anyone else says, you guys are doing this right!

My friend told me that this movie is a hoax. Is this true? If it is, you should do it for real! It could be really good. The ocarina of time storyline was the best one. I liked it so much, that I think they should use ocarina of time logic for every game. So are you really doing the movie?

    Hey guys!

Okay, um, wow. I have to says good job guys! I don’t know what the movie looks like, but it seems you put a lot of efforts into it, and that shows a lot of devotion to Zelda, and that’s just great. I really hope you had fun making this movie, and I hope you’ll have great critics from the public. Unfortunately not everyone can be happy because everyone has a different view of the legend, but I am happy to know some people actually took time to create a serious movie of Zelda.

At first I was a bit skeptical, but towards the end of the trailer I felt genuinely excited. Instead of the cliched overly modern this-is-a-video-game-movie-with-CGI-hyperactivity disorder, it actually looks like a deliberate 80′s fantasy noir. I like the vintage style, and I want to see Link go postal. It almost looks like a kind of relaunch, with the classic characters, but younger. When it gets released, I will keep my eye on it.

Congratulations to BMB Finished and crew for a job well done. This is an EPIC film for all the true Zelda fans out there. I really appreciate the fact that you guys didn’t go Hollywood and change the story. It is exactly like Ocarina of Time, like it should be. The set pieces were great and the special effects were phenomenal considering the budget you guys were working with. I’ve been following your progress from the beginning, and I’m so happy you got it out to the world. SHAME ON NINTENDO, for making you take it down!!! What harm could it possibly do? It was a labor of love. Once again, I can’t praise the cast and crew of BMB enough. Thank you for having to courage to do what Nintendo never will. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!! 10/10 5 Stars!!!
